Infrastructure security is the central goal of Sysdev, a company that has been working for years to make the monitoring of architectural works increasingly rigorous. The most important result achieved in this direction was the realization of the innovative SHBox solution: the first “black box” of infrastructure.
The SHBox system can remotely assess the structural condition of buildings and infrastructure such as bridges, viaducts and tunnels. Indeed, through wireless multi-sensor nodes, a wide range of parameters can be detected, including deformation, displacement, temperature, tilt, and seismic events. Data are then transmitted to an intuitive and user-friendly cloud platform for processing, storage and visualization.
How does the SHBox system integrate with Building Information Modeling (BIM)?
The data collected by the SHBox system can provide the BIM with valuable information about the monitored works. In this way, the integrated digital model can give rise to a virtuous tool for routine and extraordinary infrastructure maintenance.
What are the main functions that SHBox can integrate with BIM?
- Continuous monitoring: SHBox captures structural data in real time, providing a constant view of the state of the infrastructure. By integrating this data with BIM, it can be overlaid on digital models, making any anomalies or critical issues evident.
- Predictive maintenance: through advanced analytics, SHBox can identify potential problems before they become serious. By integrating this data into the BIM, maintenance interventions can be scheduled proactively, reducing costs and downtime.
- Improved decision making: integration with BIM allows structural data to be seen within a larger picture, helping to better understand the impact of each intervention and making decision making more efficient.
- Increased operational efficiency: the combination of SHBox and BIM makes resource management and collaboration between the various teams engaged in infrastructure maintenance and management more efficient, optimizing operations as a whole.
BIM will be mandatory for public works as of January 1, 2025
With 2025, the BIM requirement comes fully into effect for a wide range of public projects over one million euros: this is what is envisaged by the new procurement code (Legislative Decree 36/2023), which confirms the approach already given by the old code and Ministerial Decree 312/2021 published in the Official Gazette on September 3, 2021.
Under this decree, government departments will have to adopt this technology quickly and do so as effectively as possible.
The adoption of the SHBox system in synergy with BIM may prove to be a very important strategic choice in this scenario, for an increasingly precise and technological management of Italian infrastructure.
